Who We Are
While cleaning out some old boxes, I stumbled across my kindergarten assessment. The handwritten note from teacher read “creative child with an outstanding design sense”. The funny thing about these words which repeated throughout my childhood is I had no real interest in hearing them. I would think to myself, who cares, I wish I was good at sports. Isn’t that how life goes.
This attitude continued into college until the day a professor asked if I would consider changing my major to art. A simple question became the pivotal moment in my life. It made me think about years spent peacefully drawing, color-mixing and creating in my youth. I changed my major to art and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. To this day, the smell of oil paint and charcoal pencils brings back a flood of exhilaration.
After completing my bachelors in in Art/Graphic Design, I worked in advertising and merchandising as a graphic designer and art director for a decade. I learned so much about business and enjoyed the work but struggled to sit at a computer for long hours which ultimately forced me to reinvent my path.
In 2009, I launched Color Zen with intentions to only offer paint color consulting but that did not last long. Cherished referrals, client trust and the strange ability to walk into a space and know how to make it better illuminated my path. Clients asked for more and I wanted more. At this time and forever, I offer full-service interior design, exterior design and color consulting services.
The passion I have for this business is difficult to describe. A creative mission that feels natural, challenging, inspiring and a little larger than life. When I walk into a client’s home or work space, a special bond is created. I hear stories about your life and help you create an environment that reflects your individuality and most importantly, lifts you up.
I don’t say this lightly—this work energetically changes people. We build transformative spaces together one paint color, one inspo photo, one quartz sample, one sofa at a time . And it’s truly an honor and privilege to design for you.
Cheers,
Jessamy
