This Mudroom Design Went Viral on Houzz.
You never know what may touch the people's senses in the field of design. Much to my surprise, this mudroom has been saved hundreds and hundreds of times on Houzz. It was also selected for a homepage article which ran several times - 10 Ways to Make Your Home a Haven. Contributing to this remodel project was residential architect, Fein Design, the homeowner and I (interior design/styling). Photograph by Ryan Hainey.
To tell you honestly, standing in the room just feels good. I've come to believe that may be the only real test for successful interior design. Do you want to stay for a glass of wine... or not (even if you have to do the laundry). In this case, the answer is yes!
For this mudroom, we selected SW westhighland white paint for the woodwork (one of my favs), a (gasp) "wood" laminate for counters with durability in mind (turned out great), black porcelain floor tile, a basketweave charcoal and white mosiac tile for the backsplash and SW rainwashed paint for the walls.
I have designed quite a few mudrooms in recent years and the standards are much higher than they used to be. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of modern building advances to elevate both your functionality and ambience. After completion, clients often tell me how they now enjoy listening to a podcast while spending more time than needed folding clothing. An unexpected mini oasis, who knew…
If you need assistance reimagining your mudroom or laundry, you know where to find me.
Cheers, Jessamy :)
